The Highway of Holiness – The Sequel
By: Frank R. Williams III
Over the years, OU has been known for excellent sports teams and a graduate program that has turned out a half dozen state senators, several mayors, a candidate for vice president of the United States and some all-American athletes.
However, OU is not without a dark side. There have been several convictions of those involved with gambling, drugs, stealing and contract killings who have spent time at OU. Some were graduates and just got involved with the wrong people. Others went astray early on.
Some of them turned their lives around. Keith was one of those. He joined David at OU.
David Williams, 23 years old, continues as the soccer coach at OU. He has played soccer since he was three and for the last couple years has been the head coach at OU. Prior to that he played for them for four years and was named all-American all four years. His soccer teams at OU have come in first place and he has been selected coach of the year the last two years in his division.
David courted and recently married Susan. David’s parents are Marc and Betty. Marc bought a bookstore when he lived out West and is looking to buy one where they are today, but needs a partner. Marc is an executive with KeepClean, but sees a buyout coming in the near future. He wants some security, such as his own business.
Betty suddenly develops a serious brain issue and the solution to the problem will take Betty and Marc on a journey. David remembers his coach from high school, who shows up on his doorstep at OU one day. David was able to help him as well as another local four-year college with a need. Susan becomes pregnant and goes through a tough period. Following that she gets into something she always wanted to do.
David has an opportunity to teach a creative writing course at OU. It has its challenges. He has thought about becoming an English professor after his coaching career.
This is their continuing story.
